A Surprise Engagement in the Heart of the Alps, St. Moritz
Some photo shoots are special, but then there are those that feel like pure magic. This surprise engagement session in St. Moritz was one of them—a perfect combination of breathtaking landscapes, adventure, emotions. When Ryan reached out to me with his plan to propose to Nelia in a breathtaking alpine setting, I knew this was going to be something truly special.
The Proposal – A High-Altitude Surprise
The adventure began with a helicopter flight to Fuorcla Chamuotsch, a remote and stunning location high above St. Moritz. My role? To blend in as a landscape photographer, capturing the moment without giving away the surprise. The soon-to-be fiancé had meticulously planned every detail, and the excitement in the air was almost tangible.
As we touched down on the pristine snow, I positioned myself at a distance, pretending to capture the beauty of the mountains. Then, it happened—the proposal. Against the backdrop of endless peaks and the crisp winter sky, Ryan dropped to one knee. Nelia was overwhelmed with joy and in that instant I was there with camera in hand documenting every emotion-filled second.
From “Yes” to Champagne & Skiing at Corvatsch
After the emotional proposal, we hopped back onto the helicopter and soared towards Corvatsch, one of the most scenic ski regions in Switzerland. Here, a quick champagne toast on the summit marked the beginning of their next chapter. The sun bathed the slopes in golden light as Ryan and Nelia, beaming with excitement, skied down the pristine trails. Capturing their joy and effortless connection against the vast alpine landscape was a dream come true for any photographer.
Welcoming the New Year on the Frozen Lake
The next day, January 1st, brought another perfect setting—this time, the iconic frozen lake of St. Moritz. The fresh, crisp air and the serene, icy expanse created a breathtaking backdrop for the second part of our shoot. Ryan and Nelia popped another bottle of champagne, celebrating both their engagement and the start of a brand-new year together. The atmosphere was perfect, filled with laughter, warmth, and the kind of happiness that makes photography so rewarding.
As the sun dipped below the horizon, we moved into downtown St. Moritz, where the Christmas lights illuminated the charming streets. This final set of photos added a warm and intimate mood, perfect for closing the chapter of an engagement story that was nothing short of extraordinary.
